Some More Polymer Clay Tips
Back by popular demand, I have gathered more polymer clay tips for you to use to improve your pieces! If you didn't get to see the first installment, please check it out here: http://news.deviantart.com/article/67871/
Let's begin!
:orange: Don't use those crappy Sculpey or Fimo glosses for your creations. Their expensive as hell, you only get a tiny bit in a jar, and their usually very gloopy and annoying to apply. Do yourself a favour - go to the hardware store and ask for "Varathane". This is found in the paint department with all the wood stainers and such. Make sure you buy the WATERBASED formula, in GLOSS not semi-gloss. This stuff sells for about $7.00 for a 946mL tin and you will not need to buy anymore gloss for a very long time. This stuff works wonders - it may be for wood, but this stuff has IPN technology which means Interpenetrating Polymer Network which means it's going to soak into your clay, adhere well, and make your clay creations damn spiffy looking.

Distinctive Deviants and their Styles: Volume 2
Distinctive Deviants and their Styles: Volume 2
What makes an image instantly recognisable, as been taken by a particular individual? Like the way a Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Klein, Sugimoto etc image is recognisable. Some of the key factors include subject choice, the manner in which the subjects are photographed & processed, the size of the body of work in that style and the amount of exposure the photographer has received previously through various outlets.
Bill Henson once said that the best subject is one that can be returned to, as each day it will have something different to tell you. Everyone has a way of looking at the world, a way of visually conversing with it. Each of the deviants work presented here, has returned to the subject, building a body of work that through the way they have conversed created a distinctive and recognisable style.
Some arrive at their distinctive style through extensive experimentation over a number of years,

dA setting, Patreon rising

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 11, 2017, 3:54 AM

I'm very much alive but it looks like I'm over deviantART. I'm not leaving as such, but I have no motivation to post work here anymore. I'm just getting too old for this site. The calligraphy art I am now fully focused on doesn't belong here.
If you're into that work, I would love to see more of you on Patreon and get some more artist engagement there. I post the finished pieces in public, so you can follow me there for free, although starting from $2 you get to see early sketches, thought processes, and other insights I just don't post anywhere else, among other perks.
I actually spent a whole day hanging out at Patreon headquarters this week, a beautiful space filled with beautiful bright people who genuinely want feedback and ideas, so it's more than just another platform to me now.

Otherwise, that work gets posted on Majnouna.com which now also has a blog for announcements.
Cedarseed.com is for what are now hobbies: my illustration, photography etc.
The recipes have their dedicated blog: Joumana's Cookbook.
Finally, for something completely different: For Love of the Earth.

See you around the webs!

PS: Did you know birds actually sing all night? I'm jetlagged AF and made this random discovery :|

"One of the fundamental conditions of happiness is to know that everything that one does has a meaning in eternity" - Titus Burckhardt

I trained in graphic design and my body of work encompasses illustration, comics, tutorials, digital games and children's books. I was apprenticed to a master calligrapher for several years and I am now settled in London, UK, where I am dedicated full-time to my own calligraphy, going deeper into the potential of the ancient art of the Kufic script, which I also teach, while pursuing illustration for my own pleasure. I'm also an avid cook and baker, and all-time animal lover, with a passion for ethnography and a history of globetrotting.

You'll find my work on my dual website, Majnouna (calligraphy) / Cedarseed (everything else). My CV is here.

I'm rebuilding the site so it's a bit messy, and I only just finished the tutorials section so I need to change the links here. You can go to cedarseed.com/tutorials but don't wander too much around the rest of the site
