In the absence of a computer, I rediscovered the joys of bookbinding
Hardcover, 20 x 20 cm, glue-bound, 50 pages (90 g) with 4 spacing papers. Painted cover paper (it has a shimmery effect that may not be clear in the photo) with painted and varnished polymer clay ornament. For sale on Etsy: [link]
The name of the book comes from the ornament, which spells ???? ne3mat or "Grace" (as in divine grace) in Square Kufi of my composition. This is one of a series of words traditionally used as calligraphic motifs, redesigned everytime to fit a style or medium. Here I made the word form a rectangle which, duplicated with 3 lines of dots (some of which are to be read, others just ornamental), form a perfect square.
The design is such that the book can be used in the Western direction (cover on the left) or rotated and used in an Eastern direction (cover on the right).
It is by sheer synchronicity that I came up with and made this on Wednesday, just before the bomb exploded.
Oooh, I love the texture of the clay! It looks like fat, soft leather sewn to it or something. The spacers are great too, I love the paper and the orange paint.
That's actually an illusion – it's one large square of polymer clay, gridded to look like individual squares. Amazingly enough it's sold already, but I'm working on more in this style. It was $25
very nice
sold already?!?! Understandable becuse of it's beauty. (what was the price if I may ask?)
