Drawing Birds part 3 by Majnouna Drawing Birds part 3 by Majnouna

One word: WHEW!! :faint:
Finally, the third and last part of my Drawing Birds tutorial. It is absolutely essential to start with part 1, which deals with the actual drawing part, as parts 2 and 3 provide a guide of things to know about roughly 100 species.
Part 1:
Part 2:

This tutorial (all 3 parts) in book form: [link]
Full tutorial list: [link]

Things that should go without saying but I'll say anyway:
The birds are not to scale relatively to each other. I would have loved to make a diagram of bird sizes relatively to a human being, but I will have to leave it as a bonus for the tutorial book along with a few interesting species I had to cut out for space.
Obviously, not all species are represented. My semi-arbitrary selection includes:
- Birds that are likely to come up in illustration;
- Birds that are unique or unusual and may provide inspiration for fantasy;
- Birds I like too much not to include.

NO part of this tutorial may be reproduced, so don't even ask!! if you find it helpful and want to share it, simply link to it.

I must say that your references and tutorials are an absolute lifesaver, I will definitely put them to use. I am a birder and I often make sketches in the field of the species I see, it helps me so much to have a fast anatomy guide so that all I have to worry about are the markings!
Just a small gripe - in the Apodiformes section you said that hummingbirds live exclusively on nectar, while in reality they heavily supplement their nectar diet with small insects and the like. Just a thought, hardly important. :)

Awesome tutorial! I would like to point out though that hummingbirds do not survive exclusively on nectar, they also readily depend on insects for protein.

Yes, once I'm done revising it :) It's taking ages because I'm adding dozens of birds, but I want to release the e-book as a finished version.

Ah, forgot to add, the cranes really helped out. I used it to help with my heron/crane like fantasy bird

Funny thing, the only part of the feet I got right was the wide, wading part XD

Well, now you know one is!

This actually won't be the first bird, either. I also used these guides to help me create other deities and creatures in my game, two pictures of which are already up

However, this bird will be the first one to be put up that had deep thought put into wings

Should probably also redo Parralto to be put up as well

This makes me wonder. Can you answer the following? If no (or if you don't want you), then you don't have to. It's just a question that I thought you may be able to answer

The Parralto I mentioned is a parrot like bird I made for my game. The primary farthest away from the body has a round tip that makes it look like a musical note, for trying to get a mate (the criteria the birds look for are bright colours (to indicate general and genetic health), voice (helps to also indicate general and genetic health), and roundness of this tip (if the bird isn't doing a good job at preening itself and keeping the tip round, then that indicates something wrong. And if it is doing an above average job, then this indicates that it actually has the ability to get enough food when it hunts to have free time to preen)

However, how big can I realistically make the round part? It is about the size of a parrot and flies in forests
