This is my favorite photo in the entire trip. Seriously, the whole trip was worth it just for this pic, as far as I'm concerned. Call me crazy!
Nara is a very special city where herds of wild deer live peacefully alongside men. They've lived in the park for 1000 years, and they are so accustomed to people, and people to them, that they wander freely into the town. It's a surreal experience to be queuing to enter a temple with a deer alongside you just hanging out!
As I was sitting there by the road, just watching people reacting to deer, this little girl in red, dragging a red toy deer, came trotting among the real items... How frantically I snapped away with my point-and-shoot, praying to get just one good shot, because her mom was dragging her away quick!
And so, I'm in love with this pic. Cropped from the original, but otherwise untouched.
