The special effects look fine for me, and I like how well you managed the non-obvious page flow in the lower part: works very well! The Jinn with the automatic rifle is a bit out of balance, but it contributes to the dynamism, and can be on the ground on the next panel, after all.
No, the effects are great, can't fault 'em. Panel 2 is spooky, it's almost like a horror pic. Malaak running off into inky oblivion... Are there more than one kind of jinn? The one in the foreground seems small, while the one behind him is a hulking menace. Oh, and "That's not good - for YOU!" is an awesome line.
I so agree with the above! I love Malaak, I don't want her to get hurt! But it does feel like we must be approaching "the dark night of the soul" part of the story. :'(
I was a little visually confused with the final scene of Malaak in the bottom left...she doesn't seem to have a mouth because of the angle of her head...and I'm not sure that's right. Just a hint of a mouth? She has such a nice mouth too!
You know I follow your comic, and am endlessly impressed by it.
I'm starting to get a little bit worried about Malaak, because I figure it's about time for the jinn to strike a blow at her, or for some other weakness to appear. Don't hurt her, you evil jinn-things!
For most westerners, it's at least in the same category as Arabic script, and many would be certain enough to be willing to take bets on it being A.S.
I've studied scripts for some time (mostly ancient ones, admittedly), and I had to look sharply at it to realize (partly because the question/exclamation marks seem to indicate a left-to-right writing direction) it wasn't some unusual variant of A.S. (and I wasn't 100% sure until you wrote the above).
You should be aware that it isn't all that obvious to us occidentals.
(It resembles Demotic script, I think -- is it gibberish written using a real script or just random squiggles?)
Oh, it's really NOWHERE near Arabic script, though I'm sure most westerners wouldn't recognize that from Sanskrit. I'm surprised anyone would think it's an existing script, personally, given how tangled it is. It's not a real script.
