Malaak II p23 by Majnouna Malaak II p23 by Majnouna
This was so painless to make in comparison to the previous pages :lmao: Details I really like: the free-for-all in class (the guys are so going to know what inspired this), the lit windows, and that hill! Beirut is not just hilly, it's wedged between the sea and the mountain, so this is what our horizon looks like by night.

"Shu heyda" = "What's this??"

Enter another friend of mine who's been waiting for his scheduled appearance for months...

Ah, hills, no wonder I felt so at home despite the difference in architecture.

Yes? You live in hilly country? :)

I live between mountains and ocean, as a matter of fact. It has made many aspects of the geological structure very familiar.

BEAUTIFULLY DONE exterior shot!!! It really struck me. I should sew up a little flag to wave, as Malaak's cheerleader...I know she'll pull through this! Even though strangers seem to corner her in alleys an awful lot.

Nice page, particularly the first night frame.

Although I am a bit uneasy with the two cars there. I might be wrong, but I perceive the foremost one as a bit too small (but well done: cars are hard to draw correctly!). And I feel the other one has a rather strange angle, not fitting to the grounds as I see it.

Minor quibbles, trying to help... ;)

The first one does look a bit small (ah well!), but the second is parked on the slope :D

Yes, I guessed that, but I didn't "felt" the slope at the level of the ground. Although I would be perplex if I should find a way to show it... A little shadow, perhaps.
Or just ignore me... :P

I know what you mean, but you just can't see a slope from this angle. The car and the buildings that are below ground level are what suggests it.

You are so good at this...

* "I didn't see it coming" no, you didn't, did you?

* "We've the Guardian" "Eh, yeah" well, what to do when the Guardian is afraid to walk the streets? When people are starting to feel safer, and you know that if you don't beat this, it's all false security?

* The darkening gradient from artificial white into night blue in the bleed-out frame seems to say that safety and wellness is at best only as good as we can make it, while darkness always waits in the wings for our resolve and strength to weaken.

I even seem to be retaining a few words of Lebanese, the more they're repeated. I like how you introduce a subtle language lesson! ;)

I love this page! Nice drawn backgrounds. Colouring is great, too. Bright indoors light and just the right mood for nightime. I couldn't help but laught at the "30 push-ups on your fingers" and then feel worried Malaak has gone fearful.

Painless, eh? I would have DIED trying to make those cars and the building's facade. Beirut sounds like a very dramatically visual place. I love that you're showing us your city through this comic!

:XD: I work the backgrounds from photos (I've been all over the city shooting locations and details) so the penciling is easy. Yes, if you start looking around you in Beirut you get totally lost in all the different layers, it's very organic. I love showcasing it this way, and that readers are appreciative! :D
