This was designed in the aftermath of the most recent car bomb assassination in Beirut, so it's a little out of context by now – I'm not in that space anymore but I couldn't work onthis before I returned. I was looking to capture the depressed and exhausted state of a people that had mourned so much over so long that the pain of it was numbed and only the darkness remained. Originally I envisioned a painted black square with grey lines, but by the time I got back home to my work station, I had had a very inspiring conversation that constellated a new direction for my work. So, looking at the word حداد again, I saw it had the potential to be woven...

Checking out the blog entry is a must to see it from different angles: [link]

This is exquisite. I love that you made it more tactile with the weaving--in a way, in the tragedy of that magnitude, people are held together by their mourning, even as they are sustained by some miraculous spirit that has let them endure so much pain and suffering.

I know it's overdue, but I certainly hope you're all right, and that your family and friends are too. I know how terrified we were to hear about the bombing, feeling helpless so many thousands of miles away, but I can only imagine what it was like to see people confront that kind of violence once again.

Thanks so much :) Yeah we're ok but this was one factor indirectly forcing me to leave.

That is so perfect in so many ways. Speaking as someone in the middle of it for the first time, grief and mourning is a surprisingly complex thing that winds its way into every part of your life. This is beatiful.
