Quick food: Chocolate nut cake by Majnouna Quick food: Chocolate nut cake by Majnouna
:pointl: Check out the book!

This is a cake recipe I've been making since my childhood. It's easy, foolproof, and requires relatively few ingredients. Made with dark chocolate, it's rich and not too sweet, while milk chocolate can be substituted for an audience with a sweeter tooth (like a party of children). The proportion of ground nuts gives a particular texture that should make it possible to use wheat-free flour with better results than usual (but I haven't tried yet!)

A couple of "rules":
1. Please don't request specific recipes. Unless you want to commission me, try google.
2. Refrain from posting provincial comments. There's nothing wrong, outlandish or unorthodox about any of the foods presented – it's YOU.
3. Do not say "it's the same as [other dish]" when they have only one ingredient in common. I have no tolerance for idiocy.

Quick question, can you take out the nuts? I can' digest them so I really can't eat nuts :S

If not, I know my mother will love this haha XD

Though you'll probably have to adjust the proportion of the flour *I'm no baker*

Old comment is old... But I don't see why you can't take out the nuts--It'll just become a chocolate cake, that's all :p

i made this cake a couple days of ago (finally the weather was cool to bake!) and it's already gone. :( (my grandpa ate 3 pieces...)

i used wheat flour and resorted to having to use dark chocolate chips which turned out well. i didn't have a large baking pan so the cake was put in 2 pans.

and if i didn't say it already, thanks for sharing your recipe. :D i would definitely make this again.

(and an early happy birthday!)

Cool :) bear in mind though, for the future, that chocolate chips are filled with stuff to stop them melt and stick to each other, so you get much less chocolate flavor and are eating more weird additives instead. It's always good to have baking chocolate tablets in the pantry for "emergencies" (lol) as they keep very very long.

I am really loving these recipes from you. They all look so delicious, and some have introduced me to new ways of combining foods which just always makes me really excited, since I love trying new things (I had a lot of friends who had come from different countries growing up, and sleeping over often meant trying new things, which has given me my love of savoury hot foods for breakfast, and a deep appreciation for a lot of south east Asian cooking as well), and I love adding them to my lexicon of food so that they aren't 'new' anymore, and are just what I eat because they're great. Your recipes are simple, easy to follow, often have ingredients I already have in my house (yay!) and the illustrations are fun and really pleasing to the eye. The addition of more Lebanese recipes has been really awesome, and I'm going to try the yoghurt rice soup next, because it looks hearty and warming, and since I have very bad IBS, I'm always looking for foods that will help settle my stomach a little (so I'll try it both ways, the simple way you list in the description, and the recipe way too). :D

Looking forward to seeing the rest, and definitely looking forward to the book! :D

I plan to make this tonight for dessert, it looks yummy~ :)
My only problem is that I don't have any baking chocolate at home, would it be alright if I use 250g of chocolate chips instead?

Alright thank you C:

Oh and one more question, what heat are you suppose to use for step 1? Is it medium or medium high?

It doesn't matter as you're heating the water, not the chocolate directly :)

I just baked the cake and it was delicious! Though I use milk chocolate chips, it wasn't too sweet and my family enjoyed it a lot. :D

Pecan? Almond would work too, but you wouldn't get the same depth of flavor.

i'm going to try making this. my grandfather likes sweets but doesn't like them overly sugary-sweet. plus it gives me a chance to try baking with yeast which i've never done.

and someone was wondering about using an electric mixer versus 'hand' mixing; sometimes you can over mix or not completely combine the ingredients with hand mixing. i made chocolate chip cookies both ways and the texture of the finished cookie was different. i'm not sure how much that applies to cake batter but it's something to think about.

Great!

This is true, although you can also overmix with the electric mixer. In both cases it comes down to experience!

Can you substitute dark chocolate for white chocolate?

That would make it exceedingly sweet, but if that's the purpose, it would work, yes.

Hmn... Any chance you could post these with an approx. calorie amount? If not, that's fine, I'll just have to see if it's within my allowance while shopping for ingredients. vwv
