Quick food: Lentil Salad by Majnouna Quick food: Lentil Salad by Majnouna
:pointl: Check out the book!

Another favorite, because the ingredients and seasoning can be varied based on what's in your fridge or what you feel like. I would just advise against using anything too overwhelming – for instance a chopped onion might be too much, unless it's a small white or spring onion chopped very finely.

Oh, and I mentioned sorting the lentils because the way we buy them here, it's necessary to do this. It may not be the case in other places. Doesn't hurt to check though!

Need to try this one. c: If I may ask, is there a big difference between table and sea salt? What kind of difference does it make in this recipe? Just curious. :XD:

Table salt has been processed and loses much of the nutrients in salt in the process (apparently that's possible!) Sea salt is rougher, saltier and has good stuff like iodine in it. That's off the top of my head. Taste-wise it won't make too much difference (though sea salt should be used in a slightly lesser quantity) and I use table salt if I'm out of sea salt, but it's better for your system :)

Ah yeah, in the states at least lentils are already sorted by the time we buy them. I'll be sure to try this recipe too. By the time I get home at night I'm usually too tired to cook much of anything...

D'aww, the artwork is so cute! Love the idea of having recipes on dART - at least this one is the first I've seen anyway. Got to love the random front page system sometimes. xd

... don't think I've actually ever tried lentils. Weird, since they're so common and everything. Or maybe I have but I don't remember/didn't know what they were at the time. x3

Glad you like it ^^ I think lentils are overlooked because they don't have much flavor, but it only takes a little creativity to turn them into something delicious, and they're really nutritious!

That's more or less how I make lentils! I use bay leaves in the boiling water, I think it suits them. Only I eat them with pasta. XD I'll try the tomato and cilantro version, though, it looks yummy.

In Greece it's traditional to make lentil soup, instead, but I prefer them dry. :)

What a great tip, I will try the bay leaf!
Same here, lots of lentil dishes, but they're kind of boring :/ I prefer keeping the texture and seasoning it up.

How are you sorting them? I mean, what are you looking for, what groups do you sort them into?

Sometimes there are small stones, tiny bits of hay and other stuff with the lentils, so we sort the lentils out from the undesirable stuff. But if this makes no sense to you then probably lentils come already sorted in your part of the world :)

Yeah, can't say I've ever found hay in my lentils. But you know I've always thought dirt on my vegies just means a closer connection to the earth, right? :D

Good recipe. Sorting lentils can sound weird in countries were they're not common, I remember being commanded to sort them by my grandma when I was a child & lentils were bought in big sacks from the farmer.
Nowadays, they're sold in plastic small 1 kg. in the supermarket, no need to sort them anymore. But quality is a lot worse...:(
